*PLEASE NOTE THAT DR. ORR HAS MOVED OUT OF STATE. CONTACT YOUR PRIMARY PHYSICIAN FOR NEW REFERRALS. Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) is surgery performed through small incisions with specialized instruments and a small camera. Youngstown Minimally Invasive Surgeon Dr. Dennis Orr performs surgery with robotic precision, literally. The image is magnified and projected on wide screen for superior visualization of anatomy.
It is the best choice for many surgical procedures including gallbladder removal, hernia repair, colon removal, spleen removal, & antireflux (GERD) treatment. When compared to traditional open surgery, MIS offers many benefits including less pain, better cosmetic incisions, quicker return to normal activity, less wound infections, & post-operative hernias.

While many general surgeons perform laparoscopic procedures, a minimally invasive or laparoscopic surgeon who is fellowship trained, spent an additional year of training at large-volume, tertiary care centers specializing in these procedures. Based on surgeons skill, more advanced surgeries may be performed laparoscopically and basic procedures may be successfully completed laparoscopically without converting to a traditional, open incision. Conversion is usually done when the surgeon is not progressing with the surgery or can not complete the procedure safely.
